How to engage for peace and human rights?
Summer School 8th – 12th July in Climont
The Summer School is organized by the European SPES Institute for Spirituality in Economics and Society and ABC-Climont. It is a five-day long event taking place in a little French village named Climont from the 8th to the 12th July 2024
Our theme this year is: I choose not to be indifferent. It offers a special opportunity to meet young adults (between 18 and 30) from all over Europe on the important question of how to engage for peace and human rights, which are under the threat of populism, nationalism and war today. The Summer School takes place in Alsace (France), a region which suffered from the two World Wars. But Alsace is also known for its Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Albert Schweitzer. It is more than symbolic that the Council of Europe and the European Parliament have chosen their headquarters in Strasbourg.
Schedule for the Summer School
- Monday: Arrival of participants throughout the day and beginning of the event at 1800 (Climont)
- Tuesday: Inspiration: discussion about two Nobel Peace Prize Laureates: Albert Schweitzer (1952) and Oleksandra Matviïtchouk (2022); Exchange with Oleksandra Romantsova, executive director of the Center for Civil Liberties in Kiev.
- Wednesday : Exchance with members of the Council of Europe : 75th anniversary of an engagement for peace Visit of the Albert Schweitzermuseum in Gunsbach – Visit of the World War I trenches in the Munster Valley : Reconciliation between France and Germany
- Thursday: Role play – Looking at a conflict from different perspectives; Visit of the Alsace Moselle Memorial in Schirmeck
- Friday: Two witnesses of hopeful changes – I choose not to be indifferent; How can I engage for peace and human rights. Departures at 1400.

🚨 On receiving your completed form, we will come back to you in a few days to confirm your participation and send you the logistic details for attending the Summer School, including the payment of a participation fee of €30.
- This fee includes accommodation (4 nights from 8 -12 July 2024) as well as catering for the entirety of the event and the two visits.
